Wedding at El Escorial Monastery & Palacio de la Fresneda, Madrid / The story of Ana and Pierre-Alexandre

This Madrid wedding began at El Escorial Monastery and continued at Palacio de la Fresneda, bringing together historic architecture, a rain-soaked change of plans, a ten-minute portrait session in the monastery library, and a flamenco first dance turned into a performance that guests will likely be talking about for years.

Getting Ready at Palacio de la Fresneda

The day began at Palacio de la Fresneda, where Ana got ready surrounded by her closest family.

The setting itself felt like a fitting place to begin and only elevated Ana´s naturally elegant and calm presence. Originally used by King Philip II as a retreat during the construction of nearby El Escorial Monastery, it would later become the place everyone returned to celebrate.

By the time it was time to leave for the ceremony, the atmosphere had shifted from quiet preparation to excitement, with everyone ready to make their way to El Escorial.

A Ceremony at El Escorial Monastery

The day began at El Escorial Monastery, one of Spain's most important historic landmarks.

It's an incredible space and one that naturally sets the tone for a ceremony. The architecture, light, and scale of the monastery do most of the work, allowing the focus to stay on what's actually happening rather than everything surrounding it.

The ceremony felt calm, meaningful, and free from distractions.

Ten Minutes in the Library

Ana and Pierre-Alexandre weren't particularly interested in spending a large part of their wedding day taking portraits.

Instead, we stepped away for a few minutes after the ceremony and made use of one location that felt especially relevant to them: the monastery's library.

Both are philosophers, and the library held personal significance beyond simply being a beautiful space. We spent around ten minutes there before returning them to their guests.

Those few minutes ended up being enough.
(Than the rain started to threaten and she borrowed her father´s hat and my blazer - because what are photographers for if they cannot come to your rescue in case of emergency?!)

A Celebration at Palacio de la Fresneda

After the ceremony, everyone moved to Palacio de la Fresneda, also known as Finca de la Granjilla.

Surrounded by gardens and open green spaces, the atmosphere became much more relaxed. Guests settled in, conversations picked up, and the celebration found its rhythm.

The details were thoughtfully curated throughout the property, it felt elegant without becoming overly formal.
Catering was provided by the absolutely amazing L'Hardy (seriously some of the tastiest food we ever had on a wedding).

When the Rain Changed the Plan

Just when people were sitting down for dinner and Ana & Pierre-Alexandre barely made their entrance, heavy rain forced a complete change of plans.

Tables were moved, layouts adjusted, and timelines reworked on the fly. Rather than disrupting the celebration, it became part of the story.

The amazing staff adapted quickly, people came together to help, and some of the most memorable moments of the day happened because things didn't go exactly as planned. It was one of the most epic moments of wedding stories we have witnessed over the course of years!

Flamenco, Family and a Full Dance Floor

Later in the evening, Ana and Pierre-Alexandre performed flamenco together.

Family members eventually joined in, turning it into one of those moments nobody had planned but everyone will remember.

After that, the evening seemed to take on a life of its own. The dance floor filled up, guests stayed late, and the celebration carried on well into the night.

Looking Back

What stands out most from this wedding isn't the monastery, the palace, or even the rain.

It's how naturally everything reflected the people at the center of it.

From ten quiet minutes in a library that mattered to them to a dance floor packed with family and friends, the entire day felt personal from beginning to end.

A special thank you to Bea from Amentum Events for helping everything run so smoothly throughout the day.
